The final qualifying session of the 2014 season took an unexpected turn on 22 November when Red Bull saw both its drivers removed from the results. Daniel Ricciardo and Sebastian Vettel had originally secured fifth and sixth on the grid, but post-session scrutineering revealed excessive front-wing flex on both RB10s.

The FIA test focused on the behaviour of the outer sections of the wing under load. Officials concluded that the parts deflected beyond the allowed tolerance, providing a potential aerodynamic gain. Red Bull accepted the findings without lodging a major protest, noting that the team had followed internal checks but acknowledged that the parts did not meet the required standard on the day.

The disqualification pushed both drivers to the back of the grid for the season finale at Yas Marina. It also reshaped the competitive order behind the title-deciding Mercedes duo. Despite the setback, Ricciardo and Vettel approached Sunday with a focus on recovery in what became Vettel’s final race for the team.
